Joe Barko
I own and operate Joseph Salon on James Island in Charleston, SC. I was born in Pittsburg, PA but moved to Charleston in 1995. Prior to moving to the south, I attended the Pittsburg Beauty Academy and earned a teaching degree and started my hair career. Since I was little I’ve known that making people feel good about themselves was a deeply rooted passion and I am so glad I followed my gut and became a stylist. I can confidently say that passion is as alive today as it has ever been. When I’m not helping my clients feel and look like their best self, I enjoy gardening, house renovation projects and interior design projects, and have been known to tinker with the occasional model train. I have been working as a stylist for over 30 years and many clients have been coming to see me for that entire time.

Lisa Gilmore
I was born right here in Charelston, SC. I attended Art Beauty College in 1979 and have been doing hair ever since. I enjoy going to hair shows to elevate my knowledge and skillset as often as I can and specialize in color and cuts. Many of my clients have been with me for the entirety of my hair career (Over 40 years!). My ability to connect with my clients and offer them the highest quality of service available is of the utmost importance to me. In my spare time I care for my many farm animals and go on the occasional horseback ride but my love for my family and quality time with those most dear to me is what makes my life as beautiful and sweet as it is.

Janet Bailey
I am a true Charleston Local and, being born and raised in the low country, I couldn’t imagine my life without my friends, my family, and my island. I attended Charleston Barber and Beauty school in 1989 and have been in the industry for over 30 years! I never stop educating myself and furthering my understanding of the newest cutting edge (pun intended) hair trends. I specialize in color, hi-lites, and razor cutting but I can do anything I’ve ever been asked to do for someone’s hair, so really the sky is the limit. I enjoy spending time with my clients and am deeply passionate about the care and attention I put into each and every transformation. When I’m not making my clients feel as amazing as I know they are, I’m singing my way through the day, smelling all the roses, and earnestly loving life and my career. Every head of hair, conversation, cut, color, it’s all different and new. What an industry! I love my job!
STYLIST
Rebecca Travis
I have been a stylist since 2017 and LOVE what I do for a living. I graduated from VSKI cosmetology school and I specialize in cuts, color, color corrections, balayage and fantasy colors. I am a South Carolina native and enjoy exploring my lovely state through camping, hiking and just generally being outside! I studied opera in school and find myself singing everywhere I go, so don’t be surprised if you hear a muted hum or two while in the chair! I appreciate and value life greatly and see my experience with clients as an opportunity to connect and explore different ways of thinking. I’m taking new clients and would love to sit down and chat about your hair needs!
